The Major League Baseball season ended October 3rd. It was on this day that Tigers 3rd baseman Miguel Cabrera retained his lead in three offensive categories, batting average, runs batted in, and home runs. No player has led his respective league in those three categories since 1967 when the Boston Red Sox Carl Yastrzemski did it. By leading the league in RBI, HR, and batting average Cabrera secured himself the Triple Crown. Because few men have achieved this feat and, especially since it has not been done in 45 years, Major League Baseball is attempting to capitalize on this accomplishment. MLB.com is currently selling dirt from the batter’s box he stood in Kaufman Memorial Stadium, the site of the game played between the Tigers and the Royals on Tuesday night. They are selling it in a clear case that is made into a plaque that has Cabrera’s statistics proving he wont the Triple Crown. The league’s price tag: $49.99.
Many think that this individual accomplishment may help Cabrera financially, but also think it won’t be a huge boost given that Cabrera’s first language is Spanish and he played in Detroit, not a huge market like Chicago, Boston, New York, or Los Angeles.

At the end of June the Major League Baseball standings looked like this: The Yankees, White Sox, and Rangers led their respective American League divisions, the LA Angels and Baltimore Orioles held the Wild Card spots with the Boston Red Sox only one and a half games out. The Nationals, Giants, and Reds had leads in their respective National League divisions, but the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers held the Wild Card spots with the Mets only one game back.
Switch to today, the day after the last game of the regular season. The Yankees, Tigers, and Athletics won the three AL divisions with the Rangers and Orioles winning the Wild Card spots. In the NL, the Nats, Reds, and Giants retained their leads on their divisions, winning them outright, but the Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals won the two wild card slots.
Folk, Baseball is a crazy sport and the excitement and fun that can come from it, even in the 162nd day of the season, are evident all around us. Congratulations to the 10 teams who made the playoffs, and to those 20 going fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, golfing, etc… right now, work hard in the offseason because the 2013 regular season begins in 5 months and 3 weeks.
The Baltimore Orioles represent one of 10 playoff teams, but they haven’t been to the playoffs since the late 1990’s, and they have reignited the Baltimore fan base with a vengeance. Usually, C&A Sportswear, located outside of Baltimore, produces only football gear, predominantly the Baltimore Ravens, at this time, but with the Orioles unusually seasonal winning ways, the company is pushing numerous articles of Orioles gear. The store specializes in producing shirts and hats that are unique in that they include recent catch phrases given to certain players, or utilize songs that fans have attached to the team.
Authentic Store Buzz: The Eagles officially own first place in the NFC East heading into Sunday's game versus Keystone state rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Remember folks, Pro League Authentics has all of your Eagles gear. With a good selection of hats and jerseys online and an even greater selection of great shirts by Junkfood Tees in store. PLA has what ever Eagles fan needs come Sunday, including women's gear, winter hats, and long-sleeved shirts.

Dick’s Sporting Goods had an idea. The company has been selling NFL jerseys, first those made by Reebok, and now the new NIKE NFL jerseys, for a number of years. Dick’s like Sports Authority, and other major sports merchandise outlets have had to adapt in the recent decade to the booming sensation of buying clothing, including sports apparel, on the Internet.
Adapt, is just what they continue to do, in order to, at the very least, keep sports fans interesting in sports apparel and new sports merchandise, in the hope this keeps customers lining their stores. The store recently introduced the Dick’s Sporting Goods Jersey Report. The NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA have official stores for their sports merchandise, and have generally posted which jerseys sell he most every few months for fans to see which players are popular. In addition, reporters and teams use this information because it is news and can be used for marketing purposes.
The caveat to the Dick’s Jersey Report is that they take into account how much an athlete is trending. Using statistics gathered from social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as actual jersey sales to create a list of the top trending/selling jerseys at Dick’s. The store created the idea of a “heatseeker” or a player’s jersey that they think has the most momentum to move up in the list. Essentially Dick’s has created a power rankings list of NFL jerseys. In this the era of list making, Dick’s has pounced on the idea that fans like to read lists instead of analyzing data. The folks at Dick’s hope that customers will base much of their jersey decisions making based on this Jersey Report and continue to buy jerseys that are most popular.
The top ten jerseys on the Dick’s Jersey Report as of today are: 1. Peyton Manning 2. Andrew Luck 3. Eli Manning 4. Ray Rice 5. Robert Griffin III 6. Victor Cruz 7. Troy Polamalu 8. Joe Flacco 9. Rob Gronkowski and 10. Cam Newton.
At Pro League Authentics, we offer the jerseys that we think are the most authentic, best fitting, and most importantly well made on the market. We have experts who make these decisions, and can give any customer their advice as to which jerseys are best, and how best to spend your money. This comes from the great lettering, jersey repair, and collectors expertise that we provide.

Too bright. They look like very tall bananas. I liked the powder blue, who thought yellow would work? These are just a number of the possible responses fans could have after seeing the new Denver Nuggets alternative jerseys. The jerseys are bright yellow with the Denver skyline across the middle and the word “Nuggets” printed just below. No other team wears yellow quite the way the Nuggets have decided to do in 18 of their games this season, by wearing their new alternative jerseys. In addition to the bright yellow color, the Nuggets added a logo on the collar that is a “D” done in powder blue, the color of their regular home jerseys.
The uniforms remind us of those worn by the Golden State Warriors from the mid 1970’s to the mid 1980’s.
Recently, Jay-Z unveiled the Brooklyn Nets simple, yet stylish black and white jerseys while on stage at the Barclays arena. Those jerseys completely contrast to the Nuggets uniforms in every way.

The Brooklyn Nets are full of firsts this season. Recently we were privy to the inside of their brand new arena, the Barclays Center. The Nets become New York City’s second team, but more importantly Brooklyn’s first sports franchise since the Brooklyn Dodgers played at Ebbets Field.
Because one of the owners of the Nets is a hip-hop mogul, the team was able to unveil their new jerseys in a special manner. Jay-Z opened the Barclays Center by playing the first event at the new arena. This even before a basketball game has been played there. Jay-Z, a native of the NYC borough, wore a new Brooklyn Nets jersey at the concert.
The jerseys are simple, classic, and depict the image the team wants to portray to their fans. Both home and away jerseys are two colors, black and white. The word “Brooklyn” appears on the jersey, but not the word “Nets”. Supposedly, this is to highlight the new part of the franchise, its location. On the back of the jerseys, above the player’s name, appears the Brooklyn Nets official symbol, a basketball with the letter “B” in side.
The Nets roster, similar to their jerseys, is new look. The team has added former Hawks star Joe Johnson to the mix to go along with point guard Deron Williams and forward Brook Lopez. The Nets hope that this three headed monster, along with coach Avery Johnson, can steer this team to the playoffs.

NFL teams use the entire color wheel when choosing how to represent themselves on the field. The Vikings wear “people eater” purple while the Seahawks choose to being out their inner gin and tonic by wearing fluorescent lime colored uniforms. As fans, choose not to mock these color choices, but instead champion them as different from the constant red, white, and blue color combinations seen in Major League Baseball.
While a number of NFL teams choose to wear different shades of green, namely the Eagles, Jets, Seahawks, and Packers, only one team wears pure teal. The Jacksonville Jaguars wear teal jerseys for home games, a color well suited for the royal animal of the jungle that the team represents. Enter new owner Shad Kahn. After making headlines by going toe for toe with star running back Maurice Jones-Drew over a contract dispute, Kahn continues to make his mark on the franchise from northern Florida. Kahn announced yesterday that the Jaguars would no longer wear teal uniforms for home games. Instead the team will wear black uniforms instead of the classic teal. Recently the Arizona Cardinals wore their alternative black uniforms during a game, making the oftentimes-dull black jerseys (see NY Mets etc…) look good. According to Kahn, “Teal will continue to be a part of our uniform and our logo, but on the field our identity will grow in black jerseys.” The Jags will begin the era of the black jersey on October 9th when they return home to play the Chicago Bears.

This has been a big week for Pro League Authentics. Earlier this week, our good friend Frank Knuckles of the Roots came in to tour our new football gear, leaving the store with two new Michael Vick jerseys he hopes will help the southpaw quarterback in this week’s game against the rival New York Giants. In addition, PLA officially supplied the Eagles with a new piece of apparel. Eagles strength and conditioning coach Barry Rubin stopped by the store to pick up a team’s worth of Nike Dri-Fit PLA Workout T-Shirts for Eagles players to wear in and out of the weight room.
PLA has also decided to take part in Miller/Coors’ Throwback a Throwback campaign that they have been promoting primarily on the radio. We supplied Coors with this awesome Cooperstown Phillies Throwback jersey.
It’s been a big week here at the store, and we are hoping for an even bigger one next week when, on October 4th, Left Field Cards own Amelie Mancini will be in store to show off her incredible collection of MLB prints. She creates her own baseball cards, prints, and posters, using incredible artistic talent and some humor in the production. Here are a couple of examples. Come down to Pro League Authentics on Oct. 4th from 6-8pm to hear Amelie speak about her collection, and get a chance to purchase some originals. The store is located on 13th street between Walnut and Chestnut streets.

According to Chris Creamer over at www.sportslogos.net, the Atlanta Hawks will harken back to the 90’s with a “Hardwood Classic” jersey in 2012-2013. Remember those hawks. The Mookie Blaylock, Steve Smith, Dikembe Mutombu Hawks who wore the black and red color scheme with yellow trim. The jerseys were emblazoned with a hawk with spread wings in the center of the jersey clutching a basketball in its talons. While the Hawks will continue to wear their current jerseys, as this blast from the past cannot even be considered an alternative look. Most likely the retro look will come out once or twice during the season, but no more than that. This past offseason, the Hawks traded star Joe Johnson to the Brooklyn Nets, allowing them to clear large amounts of cap space, but instilling little faith in their fans as to their chances of winning in the next few seasons.
In other news, the NFL and the Referees union finally figured things out and have tentatively agreed to a deal that would allow the referees to officiate games beginning tonight with the Ravens and the Browns. I think I speak for everyone at PLA in saying, thank you NFL owners for finally paying the refs and getting them back doing what they do best.
