Our Summer 2022 TV Commercial airs tonight during the Phillies game and will be replayed throughout the rest of the season in the Philadelphia area.
From Octavius Catto to Connie Mack to Edith Houghton, it's always been about more than baseball in Philadelphia.
It's been about changing the game.
That's why, in the spirit of those pioneers, Shibe Vintage Sports is a proud supporter of the Anderson Monarchs youth baseball program in South Philly.
We believe that it's important to honor the past and also invest in the future.
You too can support youth baseball in Philly. For every Philadelphia Stars shirt sold, a portion of sales will be donated to the Monarchs.
In April 2022, we raised $4200 in honor of Jackie Robinson to help send the Monarchs on a summer trip to Cooperstown, NY - home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. We're happy to report the kids are on the trip this week and are having a blast!

We were delighted to be part of the Anderson Monarchs Homecoming this past weekend!
It was a day to celebrate the hard work of Monarchs past and present with baseball, music and family fun!
As part of the festivities we unveiled an outfield banner, Johnny threw out the first pitch, and most importantly, we raised money to support youth baseball in Philly.
Through the direct support of Shibe customers, we've all helped to fund a trip planned to Cooperstown this summer for the kids. Together we raised $4200 for Jackie Robinson Day in April and every day we donate a portion of the sales of our Philadelphia Stars Negro League products.

As sports fans, this is one of our favorites times of year. NBA playoffs are tipping off, Phillies season has just begun, and we have an opportunity to honor the legacy of one of the great heroes of American history, Jackie Robinson. And there's no organization that does a better job of honoring Robinson than the Anderson Monarchs baseball program. For over 25 years, they have taken youngsters from neighborhoods - where the sport of baseball would otherwise be left behind - and taught them the values of teamwork, community, and leadership inherent in the sport.
For the past few years, Jackie Robinson Week has been an opportunity to spotlight Anderson's work and to help them raise money for the various opportunities they provide. This year, we're fundraising for a week-long tourney for the Monarchs 12-and-Under Team in Cooperstown this summer.
Monarchs Executive Director Amos Huron told us, "there are 40 teams there from across the country. Teams will play between six and ten games, live together in dorms, eat meals together, visit the Hall of Fame, and make life-long memories."
To help them pay for the trip, Shibe co-owner Johnny Goodtimes will be doing 50-50 raffles at his quizzos this week, and Shibe will be donating 30% of all sales between Thursday and Sunday to the Monarchs.
Adds Huron, "Shibe Sports has a long history of supporting our work. We want to thank them for helping us honor Jackie Robinson's legacy every April and all throughout the year."
So when you shop with us this weekend, you'll be not only helping a local business, you'll be supporting a baseball organization that truly carries on the legacy of one of our greatest Americans here in Philadelphia.

Welcome to the Philly's Greatest Food bracket challenge!
Vote now for your favorites, as we pit 64 of the best flavors Philly has to offer against each other over the next two weeks.
All voters will receive a promo code for 25% off their next order!
It's time to determine, once and for all, what the best menu item in Philadelphia is! We're going to put 76 of our favorite Philly food items into the mix and let YOU determine what the best one is. There are some wily veterans, some exciting youngsters, and some explosive flavors in this battle for supremacy.
There were a few rules we followed when putting together the bracket. For instance, the competitors were limited to locations within Philadelphia city limits (so, no Donkey’s Place, Boathouse/Whistler/Jug Handle wings). The establishments also have to be currently in operation (RIP Little Pete’s, Mama’s). We kept the list to cooked-to-order food dishes (so, no Tastykakes, Peanut Chews, Lore’s chocolates, La Colombe coffee); and no markets (sorry Riker's, DiBruno’s, H Mart). In general, we also tried to favor small businesses over chains or larger restaurant groups.
We undoubtedly left off plenty of worthy underdogs, Cinderellas and even some blue bloods. Philly has lots of great food! And there's no way 64 or 76 foods could capture the delicious diversity Philly has to offer. So feel free to (kindly) let us know on social media if we snubbed your favorite dish.
We're here to have fun and make some mouths water. If you're familiar with a place - vote for it. If it's a place you never heard of, check it out and support a local small business.
As mentioned, we started with 76 foods with 12 play-in games, leading to a bracket of 64 foods on Monday. Each day you can vote here for your favorites. Every two days at noon, we'll move on to the next round.
Here is the schedule:
Plus we have the added bonus of National Cheesesteak Day on March 24 and the NCAA Regional Finals games in Philly that same weekend.
To keep with the theme and ignite the inevitable debate, below is a list of some foods that are on our radar but did not make the list this year.

When things went sideways in March 2020, the first people we thought of were the helpers.
We reached out to the Anderson Monarchs almost immediately and asked, "What do you need from us?" Needless to say, they had already sprung into action, delivering meals to families, and providing baseball instruction & school tutoring through Zoom.
They needed money to help make those things happen, and we were happy to help them raise some...our doors weren't open, but loyal customers (like you!) were still buying online, so a percentage of everything we made over a 4-day period around Jackie Robinson's birthday went directly to the Monarchs.
To celebrate Giving Tuesday, we're doing the same thing today: 25% of all in-store & online sales will go directly to the Monarchs. We're happy to say that they're back on the field, using baseball as a tool to teach, motivate, and inspire.
Another group that's always helping is the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, led by our friend Cheri Honkala. Each Christmas, we do our best to ensure that every child on their list gets a gift.
We're launching that list today as well. If you're interested in helping a child's Christmas wish come true, click here to find out how.
This is a great time of year for us. The store is busy, we get to interact with people who are in a good mood, and we get to see people's eyes light up when they spot a gift on our racks that reminds them of a parent, grandparent, or dear friend.
But it's also a time to remember the helpers, the people who don't stand down when the going gets rough...but strengthen their resolve and work even harder to help those in our community. For them, we'd like to do our small part this Giving Tuesday, and we thank you for helping us do so.
Best wishes,
Johnny and Brian
P.S. You can also donate to the Monarchs or PPEHRC directly.

Be on the lookout for our new commercial on your favorite TV stations and streaming services!
In comparison to the events of last year, 2021 has gone by pretty smoothly.
But that is by no means to say that it's been a pleasure cruise. As you've probably heard, supply chain issues have brought their own challenges, including increased pricing, delayed wait times, and limited supplies.
That's when having a strong team matters, and we're fortunate to have one. Our local vendors have been excellent partners over the past few months, explaining any price increases and walking us through what is and isn't available.
And on our end, we're happy to say that other than a $1 or $2 bump on a few items, we've kept our prices mostly the same, despite the rising costs. We also worked hard to ensure that we had a packed store come Black Friday weekend, and I'm happy to say that as the holiday season kicks off, our store is fully loaded with the unique designs you've come to expect from us.
We want to encourage you, this year more than ever, to shop small. Small retail businesses had already been gamely battling the Amazons and Fanatics of the world when 2020 came around and made things even more precarious. And every one of those small businesses could use a big 2021 holiday season to get back on even keel.
When you shop small, you're doing much more than buying a shirt, you're supporting the city of Philadelphia. Like most small businesses in Philly, we're dedicated to not just selling products but to being a community partner, raising thousands of dollars for local sports teams like the the Anderson Monarchs and the South Philly Sharks, running a Christmas toy drive each year for our friends at Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, and hiring independent Philly photographers, artists, and videographers.
Shibe Sports isn't just a store trying to sell you a t-shirt, it's a place owned and operated by people with a deep and abiding passion for Philly sports, who get to live the dream of doing something they love. In 2021, Brian co-authored a new book on the history of the Philadelphia Eagles, while Johnny and Reef launched a regular podcast that celebrates Philly's sports history, called Shibe Sports Presents.
Your support makes these things possible, and for that we can't thank you enough. We truly hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and we hope whether it's with us or any of the hundreds of wonderful local Philadelphia businesses, you make it a point in 2021 to shop small.
Happy Holidays,
Brian & Johnny

There are few people more synonymous with Philly boxing than J Russell Peltz. From his early days promoting the likes of Bennie Briscoe, to his memories of fights at the Spectrum, to his fights at the Blue Horizon, J Russell has seen and done it all. And he's finally written it all down in his brand new book, Thirty Dollars and a Cut Eye.
Listen here to hear him talk about some of the great characters of the squared circle, the problems boxing faces today, and about the mysterious murder of Tyrone Everett. Great interview, hope you enjoy it!

Reef and Johnny sat down with Shibe owner Brian to discuss his new book, The Philadelphia Eagles. Brian released the book just a month ago along with co-authors Drew Palagruto and Andrew Weicker.
We talk Eagles from their founding in 1933 all the way up to the Super Bowl, Brian's favorite players of all time, and what he learned about the franchise in the process of writing the book.
The book makes a GREAT holiday gift, so get yourself a copy soon!
