Despite leading his team to only a 1-4 record this season, considered a disappointment after a breakout rookie year, sophomore Cam Newton is attempting to go sports icon by endorsing a fashion line. Belk Inc. a department store chain is using Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to promote their new men’s fashion line. He came onto the stage at the press conference modeling a stylish suit, but let’s not confuse it with Louis Vuitton or Gucci. On the other hand, Newton is one of many NFL players in the league, and on his own team, to model men’s clothing, or promote it for a company.
In other news, according to local Jacksonville sports apparel shopping venues, the new Jacksonville Jaguars home black jerseys have been selling quickly, and the old home teal jersey sales are down. While many fans still like the teal, as it has represented the Jaguars ever since they became a team in the 1990’s, but fans seem to go with the flow, buying the new, plain black looking jerseys as if nothing had changed.
Authentic Store Buzz: Last week, Pro League Authentics held the Left Field Cards event. Artist Amelie Mancini brought her prints from Brooklyn to Philadelphia for a night, showing off her new presidential collection. He baseball oriented artistic prints are incredibly creative. Her collections include Bizzarre injuries, Edible All-Stars, and Marvelous Mustaches. Now she adds the presidential series to the bunch. The event was a great success. In addition, Ms. Mancini created an exclusive Greg Luzinski print just for the event.
The MLB division series are underway. The Giants took game 3 to make their series with the Reds 2-1 in favor of Cincinnati, and similarly the Oakland A's beat the Tigers at home to keep their hopes alive. With the Orioles win last night, the O's tied the series with the Yankees at 1 heading back now for three games in the Bronx. The Cardinals big win on Monday tied their series at 1 as the two teams travel to our nation's capitol for the first playoff game in D.C. since before World War II.
