The 1994 Major League Baseball season will forever be known as the strike-shortened season, the year in which the Fall Classic was not played.
Lost amidst the lost season was the fact that MLB celebrated its 125th anniversary with a sleeve patch that all teams save the Reds wore that season. Less known was the New Era pin of the logo that was able to be attached on the back of the cap placed over the MLB logo.
New Era, in its first season as the exclusive MLB on-field hat supplier, officially named the item, “Back of the Cap Commemorative Medallion.”
Players started wearing them early in the ’94 season, then complaints that they came loose too easily and slowly but surely the pins faded away from game-used to novelty.
