The Pennsylvania Stoners were a soccer team founded in 1979 by Hungarian emigre Willie Ehrlich. The team, which played in Allentown, was ostensibly named after the Keystone State. But being that it was the 70s, we're not so sure...

Regardless, they were visionaries in the world of promotion. They were the first American pro soccer team to ever wear a corporate sponsor on their uniforms. The company they splashed across the front on their jerseys? ALPO Dog Food.

The team was quite successful on the field, winning the 1980 American Soccer League title with a victory over the Sacramento Gold. But they struggled financially, and moved to Bethlehem in 1982. Things got worse for both the team and the league, and the league was forced to fold in 1983.

The Stoners best known player was Matt Bahr, who played soccer during the NFL off-season, and who would kick in the NFL for 16 seasons, including one with his hometown Philadelphia Eagles.
